Meet some of our professors and lecturers and learn about their cutting-edge research. Examples of what you may discover: how magnetic resonance images of the heart can be mathematically analysed to predict defects; how Maths and computing combine to calculate the exact combination of shares in an investment that will give the best return for lowest risk; how mathematical descriptions of individual animal behaviour lead to complex swarm behaviour in large colonies. Using mathematical and computing techniques, you can discover how the body keeps its internal clock accurate using only simple computations with proteins.
The talks you’ll hear could be on these or other equally fascinating areas where computing overlaps with mathematics. You’ll also learn about our courses and how we prepare our students to take a leading role in the world of industry, finance and research. You’ll get to see presentations from our students on their exciting projects. You’ll also get the chance to solve some Mathematical problems of your own in our computer labs.
You must be studying both Maths and Further Maths A-level (or equivalent level) to attend this taster course.
This taster course is open to year 12 students only. It’s suitable for students interested in pursuing a Maths/Computing degree, and who are taking both Maths and Further Maths A-level (or equivalent level)
